Thanks To You

Will you know that the lessons you have taught go far beyond the rooms

And playgrounds of our childhood to our hearts and to our minds?

We stand tall in our faith in the value of our learning,

And it’s here we’ll know we’re strong, and it’s here that we shall shine.

When you’re gone your still here, and will be throughout the years,

Our young faces tell the story of the smiles that know your names.

And as we tread life’s boards on a stage that knows your lessons,

Tho’ farewell thought’s invite a tear, we’ll sing a toast to all you bring.

Thanks to you, we are strong, thanks to you we are thinking,

Thanks to you, for your patience when the bell was too long coming,

Thanks to you, for the hand put just so upon our shoulder,

Thanks to you, for a lesson that will last a lifetime long.

On the days when you smile and give thanks for rest and quiet,

We will celebrate to think of your adventure being grand.

Hallways spill with the energy you’ve left for us to capture,

And we dance a merry dance to know the gift that’s been your time.

When your mind flickers back to a sea of open faces,

And your heart hears the voices of a room complete with life.

Or you feel a split second of some eyes that are familiar,

Know that we are thinking of you and that we are doing fine.

Thanks to you, we are strong, thanks to you we are thinking,

Thanks to you, for your patience when the bell was too long coming,

Thanks to you, for the hand put just so upon our shoulder,

Thanks to you, for a lesson that will last a lifetime long.

Fun and games for our pleasure from your magic book of teaching,

And our knowledge sits so firm while our spirits still run free.

Fast asleep children dreamt as your midnight lamp was burning,

Crafting menus for our minds to feed our curiosity.

Little words wrapped in song shall in years to come belong,

To the library of our memories where a thousand words reside,

But like a quilt laboured true woven strong with threads from you,

Those words will hold the treasure keys to the gifts of our own minds.

Thanks to you, we are strong, thanks to you we are thinking,

Thanks to you, for your patience when the bell was too long coming,

Thanks to you, for the hand put just so upon our shoulder,

Thanks to you, for a lesson that will last a lifetime long.
